tamilnadu electricity board - tneb online payment

The tamilnadu electricity board(TNEB) is constituted under the Electricity (Supply) At, 1948 (Central Act 54 of 1948) and authorised to function as the State Transmission Utility and a Licensee as notified by the Government of Tamil Nadu

Government of Tamil Nadu has accorded an in principle approval for the re-organisation of tamilnadu electricity board(tneb) by the establishment of a holding company, by the name tamilnadu electricity board (tneb) Ltd and two subsidiary companies, namely Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Ltd (TANTRANSCO) and Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd (TANGEDCO) with the stipulation that the above mentioned companies shall be fully owned by Government . The Govt. has also constituted a Steering Committee to finalise the transfer scheme for the re-organisation of tamilnadu electricity board (tneb) under section 131 of the Electricity Act, 2003.

The tamilnadu electricity board (tneb) expanded its tneb online payment of electricity bill facility for Chennai-based domestic consumers, allowing customers of Indian Bank and ICICI Bank to make payment of power bills online. According to an official release by tamilnadu electricity board (tneb), the facility would enable account holders of Indian Bank to pay their power bills through net banking while ICICI Bank customers can make payment by Credit Card or Debit Card as well as net banking.

Earlier, the tamilnadu electricity board (tneb) had introduced an Any Time Payment system (24 hours) last April in collaboration with Canara Bank, benefitting nearly 35,200 consumers.

Later, tamilnadu electricity board (tneb) joined hands with Axis Bank to allow payments by Credit and Debit Cards, the release said adding that the aforesaid measures would benefit 28 lakh consumers in and around Chennai.

The tamilnadu electricity board (tneb) has sought a three-month extension from the central government to complete the unbundling process. The board had been given a dozen extensions in the last six years.

tamilnadu electricity board (tneb), Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Limited (TNTCL), has started functioning, the registration of the distribution and generation company, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company Ltd (TNGENDISCO), and that of the holding company, TNEB Ltd, are over but the transfer of assets and employees is yet to be completed.

"We were supposed to finish unbundling by March 15, but could not meet the deadline. Hence, we have asked for a three-month extension and there are chances of us getting permission as we have done a majority of the bifurcation related work," said a senior tamilnadu electricity board (tneb) official.

The proposal for an increase in the power tariff submitted by the tamilnadu electricity board(tneb) to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission met with stiff opposition at the first public hearing here on Tuesday. Most participants wanted thetamilnadu electricity board(tneb) to first tackle the transmission and distribution losses and none was willing to take a hike.

With its annual losses crossing the Rs 6,000-crore, tamilnadu electricity board (tneb) was forced to think of revising its tariff-- something which it has not done in more than a decade. While plans to revise the tariff in 2001 and later in 2003 did not fructify, the government was forced to roll back a differential tariff hike for the domestic sector in October 2008.

A majority of participants at Tuesday's public hearing in the city tamilnadu electricity board (tneb) were from industries, small and big. S Gandhi of the Power Engineers Society of Tamil Nadu said there should not be any subsidy for the elites. "Those who consume more than 600 units should not be given any subsidy. Those who consume lesser can be given some concession," he said.

Is chennai only Tamilnadu? Why the scheme of payment through on line not extended to other parts of the state? If it is done to other parts it would be helpful. Going to the counter and waiting in queue can be avoided by the consumer. Will TNEB look in to the matter and do the needful immedietly.
